The ETC® Place Value Game

Part of the WDYS Explore and Inspire series (What Do You See)

Have you noticed the difficulties that your children have been having placing the tiles correctly on the Montessori decimal checkerboard? The reason for this is because the entire idea of multiplications between decimals is that the product gets smaller. This is counterintuitive to the fact they have become used to that multiplying two numbers results in a larger number.

This work, in the form of a game, helps the children reinforce the idea that decimals originate and fan out from the unit. Acting as a bridge between the decimal fraction board and the decimal checkerboard, it lays the foundation for cementing whole numbers and decimal place value.

Not only does it assist children in placement of tiles on the decimal checkerboard, but it indirectly exemplifies the numerical prefixes showing the place value moving to infinity.

The work comes complete and ready to use. Included:

  • A beautiful acrylic box with lid,

  • Instructional booklet on how to play the game

  • 20 pieces of a "unit"

  • 20 pieces of a "ten"

  • 20 pieces of a "hundred"

  • 20 pieces of a "tenth"

  • 20 pieces of a "hundredth"

  • 20 pieces of a "thousandth"

Remember color represents the place value and cards may be used for any position, so your students are not limited by a certain value.

Cards are printed on our ultra-thick stock which is extremely durable, hard to bend, and don't require lamination.

Each card has a soft velvet finish on the top and bottom, that is smooth to the touch. The thick green plastic middle layer is layered between those two outer white layers giving it the characteristic feel, and ultimate durability.
